I hate rattles in cars. Rattles, vibrations from out-of-balance wheels, stuff like that REALLY gets my goat. So before I leave to Autozone to buy new plastic fastneners someone tell me why I thought it was a good idea to buy a 24 year old convertible roadster.

I'm the exact same and mines a 2008, I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that it will always rattle somewhere, but right now I have cricket chirp coming from my center roof latch that's just awful.

Currently at my wear bars on my front brakes, I don’t understand how people continue to drive like that for months. The sound makes me want to scream. Looks like I’ll be going to get my brakes done on Friday. Rattles bother me(like my broken steering column cover, thanks GA interstates), but not nearly as badly as squeaks.

Yeah, my car has brand new brake pads but the rotors desperately need turned. The previous several owners were a case of “knew enough to be dangerous” and did half of the maintenance this required while ignoring several really important things. You did a timing belt, oil, and brake pads? That’s cool, but what about the rotors, exhaust leaks, awful tires, leaky top, rough idle, etc. etc. etc.

I was driving a customer’s car to their house and couldn’t figure out what was making a rear suspension noise. Found a rattle exactly like that in the rear seat.

Try some white lithium grease. It has solved many problems for me.
What’s annoying is my mother’s ‘05 PT Cruiser GT Cabrio and her ‘08 Saturn Sky were both pretty free of rattles and noises other than wind noise (which, oddly, the Miata doesn’t have as much of an issue with), until the PT Cruiser started to fall apart inside and a motor mount got sick of life.

You would really hate my Roadmaster then!

My solution is to just throw an open intake and occasionally exhaust on...sound overwhelms the rattles.

If you put the top down the wind noise drowns out the rattles.

I know what you mean. I hate rattles and squeaks, and decided buying a 30 year old Fox-body was a good idea. Rattling is pretty much all it does.

The only rattles I worry about is wheel hop

Roof down, radio up. Drown the rattles away.
